This car carrier has more sail area than anything else I've seen!

I wonder how this ship handles in a gale offshore -- do you think they sail her without engines if the wind direction is right?

First day of spring -- won't be long 'til we see boats daysailing on the bay -- like this Ensign.

Two Cats in Barbados

Four large catamarans and their guests shared our snorkeling area. Plenty of room for more.

Swim with the Turtles

This is one of the sea turtles that came to swim with us off the west coast of Barbados. The boat crews feed them so they'll join the humans for a short session daily.

Barbados Snorkeling

We hired a small motorboat to take us out to swim/snorkel with the turtles -- it was fun. There were also a few nice large catamarans out there with lots of people.

Labor Day Doubles

More dad and child racing on Labor Day -- great way for kids to get a feel for racing!

For the last race of the Labor Day Series in early September, sailors had to sail with a crew. Most brought their young children or found other kids to join them. If they didn't have a crew, they had to start 5 minutes later in the 5-mile round Dutch Island race on Narragansett Bay.

Three Ships in Newport

Tall Ships Rhode Island 2007 hosted ships from as far away as Indonesia and India and as close as Salem and Providence. Pictured here are the Barquentine 'Dewa Ruci' from the Navy of Indonesia on the left, the Sloop 'Providence' (center) from the Rhode Island capital and the 171-foot 'Friendship' completed in 1998 as a replica of a 1797 Salem East Indiaman.
